LAITR is Better than Never™.

We’re on a mission:

Improving health, wellness and quality of life for justice-involved individuals.

A holistic occupational therapy approach to reentry

LAITR is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washtenaw County, MI

LAITR provides occupational therapy services to those currently and formerly incarcerated

We provide individual and group guidance on development of new habits and routines that will enable people to live the lives they want to live and overcome barriers. We operate like “glorified life coaches” (as one of our clients once said).

We work on a lot of Life Skills which are skills we all need but none of us are truly ever formally educated on such as time management, emotional management, communication, budgeting, sleep and so on.

We know the systems make it hard to get and stay out of so our ultimate goal is to promote a person's quality of life, provide equitable opportunities for growth and prevent people from getting stuck in this system which is really just a cycle of racism, poverty, ill health and wellbeing and trauma.

I feel...that you’re helping make inmates better people. Great work from my point of view.

Don’t stop doing what you’re doing as occupational therap[ists]. It’s so needed in the community. One of the best unknown secrets that people should know about. So I hope the secret gets out to more people!
— LAITR Client
[LAITR] should be something that all treatment centers, prisons and community probation centers should use all over. Taking a holistic approach, this is one factor that is missing and why treatment has a high failure rate. I cannot say enough good stuff about you.

“Prison is the easy part, it’s out here that’s hard.”
